An FDA-Created Health Crisis Circles the Globe

How corporations engineered the non-regulation of dangerous genetically modified foods

Government officials around the globe have been coerced, infiltrated, and paid off by the agricultural biotech giants. In Indonesia, Monsanto gave bribes and questionable payments to at least 140 officials, attempting to get their genetically modified (GM) cotton approved. In India, one official tampered with the report on Bt cotton to increase the yield figures to favor Monsanto. In Mexico, a senior government official allegedly threatened a University of California professor, implying “We know where your children go to school,” trying to get him not to publish incriminating evidence that would delay GM approvals. While most industry manipulation and political collusion is more subtle, none was more significant than that found at the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

US Government Proposal Puts Food Supply at Risk

by Jeffrey Smith

"Welcome to the year 2021. Genetically engineered wonder seeds lead to exploding crop yields.…But there’s a problem. When the wheat seed was modified, a long-dormant gene was activated causing severe allergic reactions in nearly 3 billion people. Years pass before the connection is made. By then, the world’s wheat supplies must be destroyed, and a global food shortage sets in."

Bush’s Environmental Legacy On Gmos Is Irreversible

In a few hundred thousand years, after all weather effects of 21st century climate change have disappeared from the earth’s surface, after our quietly smoldering nuclear waste has been extinguished, two destructive impacts traceable to George Bush’s policies will yet remain.

Genetically Modified Peas Caused Dangerous Immune Response in Mice

Other GM Foods are Not Tested for This and May Be Harmful
By Jeffrey M. Smith

Genetically modified (GM) peas under development created immune responses in mice, suggesting that they may also create serious allergic reactions in people. The peas had been inserted with a gene from kidney beans, which creates a protein that acts as a pesticide.  When this protein is produced naturally in beans, it does not elicit a response from mice. When produced in the GM peas, however, it did cause a reaction. Using sensitive testing methods, scientists discovered subtle differences between the bean and the GM proteins—the added sugar chains were slightly different. They speculate that this difference caused the immune reactions. Based on the results of the study, the Australian developers abandoned their 10-year, $2 million project.

US Government and Biotech Firm Deceive Public on GM Corn Mix-up

By Jeffrey M. Smith
Author of the international bestseller Seeds of Deception

“This seems to be yet another display of deceit, secrecy, incompetence and arrogance from the GM [genetic modification] industry.” This condemnation from Francis Blake of the organic farmers association in Europe was one of several choice comments hurled at the biotech firm Syngenta after it was revealed that their unapproved genetically engineered corn variety had contaminated the food supply for four years. Furthermore, after it was made public, both Syngenta and the US government misled the public about its composition and safety. The German consumer protection minister described the whole affair as “Unbelievable sloppiness!” The European commissioner for health and consumer affairs said, “We deplore the unauthorized imports of this corn.” The controversy, which may eventually cost hundreds of millions of dollars, is centered on Syngenta’s Bt10, an experimental, unapproved corn variety genetically, engineered to produce its own pesticide. In mid December 2004, the company informed the US government that it had just learned that the corn had been mislabeled in the 1990s as Bt11, an approved variety. From 2001–2004, about 14,000 bags of Bt10 seed were grown on 37,000 acres in the US and the resultant 165,000 tons of corn was sold as food and feed in the US and abroad.

A Deadly Epidemic and the Attempt to Hide its Link to Genetic Engineering

By Jeffrey M. Smith, author of the international bestseller, Seeds of Deception

In October, 1989, 44-year old Kathy Lorio arrived in the medical office of Dr. Phil Hertzman in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Lorio, who had been healthy and active, was suddenly struck with severe pain and a host of debilitating symptoms. Blood tests revealed that her eosinophil count had skyrocketed. The normal concentration of this white blood cell is about 10 per CC. Allergies or asthma can make it rise to 500. Lorio’s was over 10,000.

Genetically Engineered Crops Damage Wildlife

by Jeffrey M. Smith, author of Seeds of Deception

Things aren't going so well for farmland birds of Western Europe. Some species are at only one tenth their population of 30 years ago and several have abandoned their old habitats altogether. Why? Chemical intensive industrial agriculture is killing the wild seeds and bugs they eat. This trend is particularly alarming in the UK, where about 68 percent of the land is used for agriculture.Dropping bird counts indicate serious environmental imbalance, a trend which the UK Government has committed to reverse by 2020.Thus, when the largest environmental study of genetically modified (GM) crops indicated that farmland bird populations would plummet even further if the crops were widely planted, the Independent described it as a nail “hammered into the coffin of the GM food industry,” which, “sealed the fate of GM in the UK.”

Obama’s Team Includes Dangerous Biotech “Yes Men”

Biotech “Yes Men” on Obama’s team threaten to expand the use of dangerous genetically modified (GM) foods in our diets. Instead of giving us change and hope, they may prolong the hypnotic “group think” that has been institutionalized over three previous administrations—where critical analysis was abandoned in favor of irrational devotion to this risky new technology.
