Tools for Food Service
If you are a restaurant, a school lunch program, or an organization that holds events where food is available, and you want to transition away from genetically modified (GM) ingredients, you need to start by identifying which food products served contain GM ingredients.
The Non-GMO Shopping Guide can help you identify which of your ingredients or products are GM. However, you (or your event vendors) can ask your suppliers to both help identify the GM food products they offer and to help find non-GM alternatives for you. Use our Letter to Suppliers for this purpose.
The Institute has extensive information about GM foods, including the numerous health risks that have prompted widespread rejection by consumers and manufacturers. You can download our GMO Health Risks brochure to give to your suppliers as well.
As more people do this, non-GM alternatives will become easier to find. The Institute is collecting the names of institutional suppliers and manufacturers that offer non-GM alternatives, so we can make the list available to purchasers. If you identify any particularly helpful suppliers, let us know.
Additional information about Non-GM sources can be found on the following websites: www.Non-GMOreport.com, and www.NonGMOproject.org.
